Xiaomi is holding a launch event in China tomorrow where is could unveil the recently leaked Redmi Note 4 and Redmi 4 smartphones. Here’s everything we know about the smartphones so far.

Xiaomi looks all set to introduce two new smartphones in China tomorrow. The company, in partnership with China Mobile, has released a new teaser image for its launch event, where it is widely expected to unveil the Redmi Note 4 and Redmi 4 smartphones. The teaser confirms previous report that hinted at Redmi 4 launch on August 25. Earlier this month, we also came across leaked photos of the Redmi 4 showing off the metal unibody design with fingerprint scanner at the back. Also, at the front, a 2.5D curved glass is expected with thin bezels on the sides.

The Redmi 4 was also spotted on Geekbench listing, which revealed some of its leaked specifications and features. Successor to the Redmi 3, which was launched in China earlier this year, the Redmi 4 is expected to bring some under the hood hardware upgrades along with some design improvements.

The Redmi Note 4, on the other hand, will be the successor to the Redmi Note 3, which was also launched in January, this year. It has also been one of the highest-selling smartphone in India in just five months. While we haven’t come across any leaked photos of the Redmi Note 4, the alleged retail box of the smartphone was recently spotted, which shed light on some of its specifications and features.

Redmi Note 4 specifications

Based on the leaked retail box, the smartphone is likely to sport a 5.5-inch full HD display. While the Redmi Note 3 was powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 650 hexa-core processor, its successor, the Redmi Note 4 is likely to be powered by MediaTek’s 64-bit Helio X20 deca-core processor clocked at 2GHz. The smartphone is likely to be offered in two variants – one with 2GB of RAM and 16GB onboard storage and the other with 3GB of RAM and 64GB onboard storage. A microSD card slot (hybrid slot) for expandable storage is also likely to be in tow.

In the photography department, a 13-megapixel rear camera is expected along with a 5-megapixel selfie camera. Now, while a 13-megapixel will be a downgrade from the existing 16-megapixel camera on the Redmi Note 3, Xiaomi could be using a better sensor to let you take good photos. With a 4,100mAh battery, connectivity options such as 4G LTE with VoLTE support, Bluetooth, GPS and Wi-Fi 802.11ac are expected. On the software front, it could run Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow based MIUI 8 out of the box.

According to the benchmark listing, the smartphone is expected to feature a 5-inch full HD (1080p) display, which is an upgrade compared to 5-inch HD display on the Redmi 3. Under the hood, Qualcomm’s 64-bit Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor clocked at 2.02GHz is expected. Previous leaks also hinted at China specific variant with MediaTek’s 64-bit Helio X20 deca-core chipset but that is unlikely to happen considering the entry-level positioning of the phone.

Similar to the Redmi Note 4, the Redmi 4 could also be offered in two variants – 2GB RAM + 16GB storage, and 3GB RAM + 64GB storage. The smartphone could also come packed with 4,100mAh battery with support for fast charge. Connectivity wise, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, 4G LTE with VoLTE, dual SIM card slots could be in tow.

While other details about both pricing and availability of smartphones is missing at the moment, we’re likely to found out tomorrow when Xiaomi announces them.
