Here's how to push your iOS 11 running iPhone into dark mode.
At this point, if there’s one thing that Apple fans have been asking for, it is the dark mode. The Dark Mode or Night theme feature is widely popular on Android platform, but iOS users had been on the shore for while, until Apple finally introduced it in the iOS 11 – sort of! Now, Apple might have its own reservations regarding the dark mode, but things appear to be rolling out in a new direction with the brand new iOS 11, which was announced in June.
Apple is currently running the iOS 11 beta program for developers, and curious early adopters, ahead of the public release of the operating system later this year. While iOS 11 comes with a slew of cosmetic and technical upgrades, the company also added a couple of new accessibility options, one of which is the Smart Invert. This helps to a certain extent in case you want your iPhone or iPad to run in dark mode. For the ones running the iOS 11 beta mode, you can toggle the smart invert mode on by going to Settings>General>Accessibility> Display Accommodation>Invert Colors.
How is Smart Invert different from Classic Invert?
In case of the Classic invert, the color reversal can end up annoying you after a while. The reason being that the feature also inverts the color in the camera app, and it shows inverted colors of the images on your Photo roll. On the other hand, the Smart Invert mode reverses the color of the display, but comes with an exception for images, media and some apps that could utilize dark color styles. Why Dark Mode?
In these times of smartphones equipped with power hogging features, battery strength can always be found as a collateral damage. Thanks to increasing adoption of OLED displays by smartphone makers, you can always save a little extra battery with the dark mode active on such smartphones. Until now, Apple has only been utilizing LCD panels in iPhones, which use more energy as every pixel in the display is lit, while the display it is being used. On the other hand, OLED panels allow pixels to independently light up as per the use which also offers better contrast ratios and deeper blacks. Thus, an OLED display panel on iPhone will be worth watching, and with the iOS 11 Smart Invert mode, users can obviously save on power. Apple is expected to release the OLED iPhone 8 next month, along with LCD panel based iPhone 7S and iPhone 7S Plus.
